Join panelists discussing trans representation and visibility; trans youth supporting each other – building community and resilience; and trans visibility in a time of media and political backlash.
As well as a Q&A session after, with the panelists and a registered counsellor discussing active allyship.
This pertinent event will be open to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies to share and learn together, as organized by the Vernon Pride Society & Family Resource Centre, and supported by the Vernon Branch of Okanagan Regional Library and the North Okanagan Trans Network.
Panelists:
- Tasha Cory (any pronouns) is a LPN, Two-Spirit Métis, originally from Manitoba, and currently working for the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB). They will be discussing the sacred role of Two-Spirit people, generational trauma, and their journey of healing and reclamation.
- Worthy Grace (He/They) is a RPN and is the founder of North Okanagan Trans Network (NOkTN). He will be discussing Trans Visibility in a Time of Political and Media Backlash.
- Karmen Janke (They/Them) is a 3rd year political science student. They will be discussing Trans Youth Supporting Each Other: Building Community and Resilience.
- Aila Payson (They/She) is a multidisciplinary artist. They will be discussing Representation & Trans Visibility (identity/accessing information).
Q&A portion of the event will be answered by the aforementioned panelists.
As well as Susan Armstrong (She/Her) a registered local counsellor working with the Family Resource Centre, discussing Active Allyship: How Cis People Can Support the Trans Community.
This event is available for all ages to attend. We will have colouring pages in a section of the room for anyone who would like them during the event.
